Additionally, multiple unknown Mega Stones were shown along with the trailer, sporting colors to other Pokemon who don't have a Mega yet. The DLC could release new Mega Evolutions outside of what the base game already has!

Following teasers around a Malamar taking over Pokemon's socials, a Mega Malamar was revealed on September 10th, 2025! Mega Malamar is the fourth new Mega Evolution announced for the game.
A gameplay trailer was released shortly after showcasing how Mega Malamar appears in game and its penchant for hypnotizing its opponents.

Mega Hawlucha was revealed in a pro-wrestling inspired match on August 28, 2025. It is the third new Mega Evolution announced for the game.

Mega Dimension DLC
A few other Pokemon who are known to Mega Evolve have also been seen in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This means that their Mega Evolutions can also be included just by the presence of their evolutionary lines.
The possible Mega Evolitions include:
It remains to be seen whether they will be in the game, but it's highly reasonable to expect that they will be.

During the Pokemon Presents livestream on February 27, 2024 the Mega Evolution Symbol briefly appeared at the end of the trailer, hinting at its return in the upcoming game.
Since it is a Legends Game based on the Kalos Region, the Mega Evolution mechanic is confirmed to return in the announcement one year later, on February 27, 2025.

Mega Evolution will likely work similarly to XY and ORAS, where a Pokemon will be holding a Mega Stone, and its trainer activates it during battle using a Key Stone. The latter is confirmed as of February 27, 2025.
In a Legends-style game, Mega Evolution might be a transformation that can be activated on the Battle screen, similar to Strong and Agile Style in Legends: Arceus.
Because Pokemon did not have Held Items in Legends: Arceus, we can speculate that it may work similar to Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, wherein the Mega Stone need only be in the player's inventory to be activated.

With the shift to a real-time battle system, Mega Evolution in Legends Z-A seems to have a time limit, restricting the duration that a Pokemon can stay Mega Evolved.
A glowing pink gauge at the bottom-right corner will slowly drain as the Pokemon remains in Mega Evolution. Once it runs out, it presumably shifts the Pokemon back to normal.

Mega Evolution seems to also affect how moves work directly--noted by a special symbol besides the move's name. This might include a wider area of effect or bigger hitbox.
Starters are most likely to get new forms, and in this case, Mega Evolutions. Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise all had Mega Evolutions, but Generation 2 Pokemon were completely skipped, as well as Generation 4.
It is a good assumption that Starters from these games, as well as starters from Generation 5 and onwards have a fair shot at getting Mega Evolutions.

As of the announcement on February 27, 2025, the confirmed starters are set to be Chikorita and Totodile of Generation 2, and Tepig of Generation 5!
Besides Starters, some Pokemon that have no evolutions were given Mega Evolutions. This included Pokemon like Kangaskhan, Absol, Heracross, Mawile, and Aerodactyl.
Garchomp, Salamence, Metagross, and Tyranitar all got Mega Evolutions in XY and ORAS. This means there's a possibility that the remaining pseudo-legendaries until Generation 6, such as Hydreigon and Goodra, can get Mega Evolutions as well.

I was hoping that they would make a mega evolution for Pikachu, Ninetales, Meowth, Lapras, Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Milotic, Luxray, Leafeon, Glaceon, Maractus, Zoroark, Sylveon, and Goodra! Because that would be awesome!
