Unlike in Pokemon XY and ORAS, where Pokemon can only Mega Evolve in battle, Rogue Mega Evolutions allow wild Pokemon to Mega Evolve. This means that players can now encounter Mega Evolutions while roaming Lumiose City, without needing to battle an opposing trainer with a Mega Stone.
New Mega Evolution Pokemon in Legends Z-A
Since Rogue Mega Evolutions can only occur in the wild, there's no trainer that can activate a Mega Stone. This could either mean that these Pokemon don't need a Mega Stone once caught, they cannot be caught at all, or they'll require a Mega Stone once they have been pacified.

Similar to Max or Tera Raid Dens, interacting with a Rogue Mega Evolution will start a boss raid where you can enlist the help of an ally to take them down. These Pokemon are much stronger than regular Wild Pokemon, as denoted by the HP bar at the top of the screen, as well as the overall buffs from Mega Evolving.

Before you can battle a Rogue Mega Evolution, you will first need your own Pokemon that can Mega Evolve. However, it's currently unknown if this is a requirement, or if it's just highly recommended so that you can match the wild Pokemon's power in battle.

Rogue Mega Evolutions can be found by looking for a Pokemon that has a red-ish pink glowing swirl around it. Unlike regular wild Pokemon, Rogue Mega Evolutions also appear during daytime, making them a lot easier to find, aside from the fact that they also glow.
As a note, not all Pokemon can have a Rogue Mega Evolution. This is because Mega Evolutions are only available to certain Pokemon, meaning that only Pokemon that Mega Evolve can experience a Rogue Mega Evolution.
