With how Hell is Us' story, progression, and puzzles are designed, it is crucial to speak with NPCs and digest what they are saying in order to get clues on what to do next. Story Walkthrough and List of All Acts
As you venture through the game, you'll encounter certain locations with peculiar objectives as well as NPCs with certain requests. Be sure to take note of these events and view them on your pad to track these quests, as completing them offers various rewards. Most of these cannot be solved immediately upon encounter, so you will have to backtrack later on.
Note that some Good Deeds require you to finish them reaching a certain point in the story. Failing to complete these objectives by progressing too much may cause the Good Deed to fail, which can lock you out of certain rewards or have an alternate ending.
Weapons are what decide what your basic attacks do. Each weapon type has its own moveset and combo sequences you can use to defeat enemies you encounter throughout the game.
| Sphere | The weapon's Lymbic Sphere type. This decides what your weapon's damage type will be and the glyphs it can equip. |
|---|---|
| Type | The weapon's base type. There are multiple weapons with different types, and these weapons will share the same moveset as other weapons with the same type. |
| Rank | The weapon's current rank. This decides how many times you can upgrade the weapon from a blacksmith. Increasing a weapon's rank will increase the max level that the weapon can attain. |
| Level | The weapon's current level. Every time a weapon levels up, its stats will increase, which translates to more damage output. |
| Lymbic Energy | The maximum Lymbic Energy you can use with this weapon. |
| Lymbic Theft | Each hit will cause you to regain a percentage of the damage you do as Lymbic Energy. This lets you refill consumed Lymbic Energy passively. |
| Guard | The amount of damage you take when guarding with the weapon. |
| Parry | The ease of parrying with this weapon. |
| Attack Speed | The rate at which the weapon can unleash attacks consecutively. |
| Glyph Slots | The number of Glyphs you can equip to the weapon. |
| DMG X Hit | The amount of damage your combo sequence will do. |
Leveling weapons will increase these weapon stats, but to go one step higher, you'll need to upgrade the weapons from a blacksmith. This will increase the weapon's level cap, which lets you further strengthen it by using it in combat.
Defensive Gear is equipment you wield to gain positive defensive stats. These often increase your Endurance or max HP, as well as providing damage reduction against enemy attacks. Most Defensive Gear also has unique Lymbic Powers that change the way each gear provides defensive bonuses to the player. The better your Defensive Gear is, the further you can progress through the game.
| Damage Absorption | Reduces damage taken by a percentage |
|---|---|
| Lymbic Sphere | Elemental Type of your gear, reduces the damage you take from enemies of the same sphere |
| Endurance Bonus | Increases your max HP |
| Stamina Cost Reduction | Reduces the stamina cost of movest that consume it |
| Endurance Regen | Regenerates HP and Stamina by defeating enemies |
| Lymbic Regen | Regenerates Lymbic Energy |
| Lymbic Cost Reduction | Reduces the cost of moves that consumes Lymbic Energy |
| Melee Damage | Increases damage dealt |
| Life Steal | Saps damage you deal back as HP |
| Healing Bonus | Increases the amount of HP regained from all sources of healing |
| Sidestep Invicibility Window | Increases the invincibility frames of a sidestep |
| Healing Upon Death | Provides a second life upon death |
| Healing From Lymbic Spent | Regenerates HP based on Lymbic Energy spent |
Once you gain access to a Blacksmith, be sure to upgrade the stats found in your gear to let your character take more hits for less damage.
There are three types of socketables that you can equip to provide you with unique abilities and passives in the game. Here are the types of socketables in the game:
Relics are divided into two categories, which are active and passive. These relics are then equipped and will provide their passive boons or will become activatable when triggered under certain conditions. You can equip a total of two Relics at a time, one active and one passive.
Unlike other gear, Drone Modules are not directly equipped by the Remy. Instead, these are slotted into KAPI, which will grant the drone new usable skills to aid you in combat. All Drone Modules are skills and do not provide the drone with any passive benefits; however, there are modules that can be toggled, which will cause the drone to continuously use the said skill.
Glyphs are equippable items that must be slotted into your gear. These Glyphs must be activated to trigger their effects and the only way to equip a glyph is by equipping it to a gear with the same Lymbic Sphere. What this means is you cannot equip a glyph with the Terror Lymbic Sphere to a gear with the Rage Lymbic Sphere, for example.
One universal exception to Glyph compatibilities is gear with Neutral Lymbic Spheres. These types of gear can equip Glyphs of all Lymbic Sphere types. This comes at a cost of less specialization since having a specific Lymbic Sphere element can push your advantage against certain enemy types, but this flexibility is what makes Neutral Gear a valid choice among your gear choices.
Now that you understand how to story and gearing works in the game, the last thing to get you started is to understand how stamina and a unique mechanic called Healing Pulse works.
Stamina is the lifeline that keeps your character safe from enemies. It lets you attack, dodge, or parry enemy hits, which prevents you from taking damage and losing HP. Your maximum stamina is always limited to your current HP value. This means that to increase your stamina, your no.1 goal will be to avoid taking damage.
On the other hand, Healing Pulse is a unique mechanic that lets you regain HP during combat. When you damage an enemy, a white line appears on your health bar, showing the amount you can recover. Time it right, and you'll heal that portion without using consumables. With good timing, enemies become a reliable source of HP as you venture through Hadea!

Lock-On allows you to focus your camera on a specific target and lets you use your attacks, glyphs, and even drone commands to target that unit. Learn how to use the Lock-On to be able to command both your character and drone more efficiently during combat.
You can lower the game's difficulty setting to adjust the enemy's damage output. However, you can also tweak it to your liking to master enemy attack timings. To do this, head to the gameplay tab of the settings and adjust the enemy attack's frequency to the highest while lowering their damage. This will let you receive more hits but get punished less for mistiming your dodges and parries.

With little to no access to maps, only the compass will be your friend in navigating the world of Hell is Us. Make sure to utilize the compass to understand where you need to go from specific landmarks told by NPCs and other sources of info.
Certain zones in your current maps are designed to be inaccessible during the first time you encounter them. If a way to solve a specific puzzle or enter a certain establishment seems impossible, consider taking note of it and moving on with the story first!
In the settings menu, you can enable audio cues that help you identify the direction of a sound. Since environmental clues are very important in progressing the game, you can turn this setting on to get a good sense of where sounds are coming from.
Vaults in Hell is Us are locked areas containing highly valuable loot in the game. These vaults house some of the best equipment you can get, and you can open them immediately as soon as you know the location and the code. Aim to loot these vaults as soon as you can!
