Similar to the original Hollow Knight's Steel Soul Mode, this difficulty mode will have permadeath, requiring players to complete the game without dying to clear.
Steel Soul Mode features small tweaks and slight changes to the game. Contrary to Hollow Knight's Steel Soul Mode that only featured permadeath, Silksong's Steel Soul Mode will likely feature added mechanics, new enemy and boss movesets, and possible map changes for a unique and fresh experience.

Players can also access Steel Soul Mode without beating the game by entering the Konami Code in the Extras menu, specifically: Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right. If players enter the code correctly, a brief white flash should occur afterwards, indicating that Steel Soul Mode has been unlocked.

Based on Team Cherry's video about Silksong's features, Steel Soul Mode was previously named "Silk Soul" and was described as a mode that offers a "challenging experience where you can test your skills".
As there is no Silk Soul Mode unlocked in the post-game and no mention of the mode in the Achievements list, it is safe to assume that it was renamed to "Steel Soul" in the official release.

Classic mode is the standard difficulty, offering the right amount of challenge while allowing you to respawn upon dying. It’s most recommended for first-time players to better understand the game before jumping into Steel Soul on their next playthrough.

Steel Soul, on the other hand, is much more difficult, as death is permanent. If you die, the game ends, and you’ll need to restart or reload a previous save file.
