This is a guide on what to buy and sell first in Borderlands 4. Learn the items, gear, and weapons that you should buy and sell, along with how to use the Junk function by continuing below!
List of Contents

In Borderlands 4, you can find vending machines that will sell useful equipment such as Shields and Repkits. Buying high rarity shields and repkits will greatly boost your chances of survival while also granting passive effects!
You can compare items first before deciding which item to buy on the vending machine. To compare items, press Triangle for PlayStation, Y for Xbox, or R for PC.
Guns sold in vending machines are usually not unique when it comes to their passive effects. Due to this, it is more recommended to loot guns instead of buying ones in the vending machines.

Since your backpack slots are limited, it is highly recommended to sell guns and equipment that are low in level and tier! Use these as an additional source of cash while freeing your backpack slots to loot stronger equipment.
To sell an item from your inventory, go to a vending machine and switch from Buy to Sell using RB/RT. Select the items you want to sell and press X for Playstation, A for Xbox, or the left mouse button for PC.

To save you from selling loot one by one, use the Take as Junk function. Press Q on keyboard or D-Pad Down on controller to pick up items to be marked as junk in your backpack.
At a vending machine, press Q on keyboard or Y/Triangle on controller to sell all junk at once.

You can check which items in your inventory are marked as junk, and toggle their junk status by hovering over them and pressing the Toggle Junk button (X on keyboard, RS/R3 on controller). Junk items are shown with a red trashcan icon in the bottom right corner of the item.

Upgrade your backpack by using SDU Tokens to further increase the amount you can loot and sell.
